I have no idea what school yearbooks look like these days. Do they still do quotes?
What was your high school yearbook like? Did you have a quote and, if so, what do you think of it now?
When I was in high school, they only let the seniors have a quote. When I was a senior, my quote was an answer to a prompt given by the yearbook staff: “How do you want your classmates to remember you?” My reply was something about them remembering me as being “svelt”; I was the fat kid all through school until my junior year when I lost a ton of weight. The other kids probably just remember me as that kid who drew goofy pictures all the time… if they remember me at all.
As teenagers, we tend to be hyper-focused on ourselves and overestimate how much others actually think of us. I wish I knew that when I was that age; could’ve saved a lot of self-loathing generated from the assumption that others had a negative opinion of me when they probably had no opinion of me whatsoever as they were busy doing their own thing.
