Oddballs: I was a Teenage Barbarian

This was obviously influenced (and, to some extent, a satire of) Sergio Aragonés’ “Groo the Wanderer.”

Groo the Wanderer is, by far, my favorite comic of all time. In fact, it’s pretty much the ONLY comic I’ve read throughout my life (since discovering it, of course). I’ve read other comics here and there, but none of them enthralled me, inspired me, mystified me, impressed me, or anything as much as Groo had and still does to this day. In fact, I recently purchased “Groo vs. the Gods.”

If you have not read Groo, you’re missing out. It’s expertly written and drawn; each issue is a self-contained story that fits nicely into an over-arching narrative within its own universe – as any great comic (or TV show or series) should do, of course. Yet, Aragonés can lampoon society, politics, and even religion with amazing humor and astounding grace. On top of it all, is some of the best cartooning you’ll see in your entire life.

I can go on and on about Aragonés and Groo, but I’ll leave it there. I’ll only add one thing: my little quick comic is not a representation of Groo in any way, it’s just a goof. Check out Groo for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
