I had a blast creating this page. I used Midjourney to create the “photos” and Canva to do everything else.
The idea for this came to me after taking my family to Golden Corral for lunch after church one Sunday. I mention that so that you don’t think I’m making fun of Golden Corral, not that they’re above ridicule for any reason. Instead, the idea of a not-so-high-class version of a not-so-high-class establishment is inherently funny.
A few interesting notes from the AI front:
- I had a tough time getting the AI to spit out an image of a disgusting steak. I figure that the majority of steaks on the internet are photographed favorably AND since the AI doesn’t eat, it doesn’t know how to make something unappealing to humans. That steak was the best (worst?) it could do.
- I tried to get the AI to create a picture of a pie made of candy corn and it didn’t understand that it wasn’t supposed to add regular corn as well. At first, I was irritated, but then I thought it was funny.
- The ‘Dillow Dog was just a corn dog, but the AI made it look extremely grotesque, which I liked.
- The mayonnaise dish was hard to make look gross as well. The AI kept making it look fancy; plated and presented as though it were a delicacy. After many prompt attempts, I simply asked the AI to make it into a big pile of mayo and other junk.
